Introducing Microneedling – Collagen Induction Therapy

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that dermatologists use to encourage collagen production by taking advantage of the body’s natural healing response.

Microneedling has gained results-driven popularity for its growing list of benefits.

Benefits of microneedling can include:

• reducing the appearance of scars, including acne scars
• reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
• reducing enlarged pores
• reducing the appearance of hyperpigmentation, or dark spots
• smoothing uneven skin tone
• improving skin elasticity
• reducing the appearance of stretch marks
• promoting hair growth

My personal take on skincare

How much money have we’ve spent on expensive skincare products that we think “should” give us better results than they actually do?

Yeah, it may feel good on our skin at the time we use it, but the results aren’t always as described, say 2 to 3 months down the line.

Think about it like this: Our top layer of skin that we see and feel (Stratum corneum), acts as the barrier that prevents unwanted materials from entering, and excessive loss of water from exiting the body. These are typically dead, dry skin cells that we exfoliate away. Now, you’re applying that expensive skin care to this “dead skin” layer and expecting the nutrients of your creams and serums to penetrate where it needs to, to help with moisture and hydration, target winkles and the like. This is never going to happen! Not to the full effect we’d like.

You need to get past that dead skin by creating micro-channels that target the RIGHT layer of the epidermis, where those products can be properly absorbed to reap the benefits. These micro-channels are so tiny, yet incredibly effective for absorption. Once we’ve got those in place, the correct serums and creams need to be used to feed your skin based upon your specific needs. While all this is happening on the surface of your skin, it’s the magic that happens below the surface that is an amazing bonus.

You’ve now told your skin that it has an injury and it send every bit of healing assistance it has to go heal that area – your body’s own natural healing response. So, over the course of around 2 months your collagen (elastin fibres and fibroblast cells) kick into gear and flood that area of your skin with all it needs, creating a highly hydrated, plumper structure where the skin texture becomes more even.

Why are we feeding these brown, scaly bits?

The top layer is the stratum corneum (flaky, pale brown), dead skin cells that form the surface of the skin.

With minimal discomfort and very little downtime, microneedling creates “micro-injuries” that work by helping to stimulate the skin to repair itself naturally.
